St. Patty’s Day Rewind

March 17, 2009

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Since I have a little Irish in me, here’s a traditional Irish blessing for you:

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
The sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

As I was thinking about the holiday today and making sure the kids had a little green (not easy considering their uniforms don’t come in green) I got to thinking back on a trip to NYC I took a few years ago. It happened to take place over Saint Patty’s Day, which was fantastic, because I got to see the annual parade through the streets of Manhattan. It was pretty funny, because roughly half of the spectators lining the streets were already drunk by the middle of the day.

An Irish version of the Beefeater?

The other cool thing about visiting NY during St. Patrick’s Day was going to an Irish pub. You simply can’t go to NY on St. Patrick’s Day and not go to an Irish pub, even if you’re like me and not really a drinker.

Good times, people. Good times. 😉
